TRUSTEES

Following years of fruitless correspondence, a meeting in February 2000, arranged by
the Clerk to the North Turton Parish Council with representatives of the
Charity Commissioners of England & Wales, determined a totally
successful conclusion to the transfer of trust status to the Barlow Institute which will be maintained as a Charity.
This is in accordance with the power given by the Charities Act

The granting of status as a charity delegates powers of control, leasing or disposal of all or part of the charity’s properties. In the specific authority of the lease, the obstacle confronting the cricket clubs necessary provision of a new clubhouse has been overcome, and it is hoped that a similar project to provide adequate provision for the bowling club will be realised in the future. The Committee intends to promote and encourage a vibrant village atmosphere and to establish community interest and pride in the Institute’s facilities created so magnificently by the Barlow Family in the previous century for the Edgworth community. From experience gained in the Millennium Year the Committee is confident the desire to foster and improve community interest and spirit will support the future life and work centred around the heart of the village. An open day was held at the Barlow Institute on 24th November 2007, when over 200 residents dropped in to find out about the various activities on offer. Questionaires have been circulated to establish how local people would like to see the building and its grounds developed, and possible grant sources are now being sought to try to bring these hopes to fruition. |
